Ambassador Tarja Fernández presented her credentials to the President James Michel on 26 January in Victoria. President Michel was thankful for Finland's participation in the EU's antipiracy work.
Finland has also supported several renewable energy programmes in the Seychelles, and the energy sector plays a key role in the trade relations between the two countries. Seychelles has also been part of Finland's work in the capacity building of the Eastern Africa Standby Force, EASF.
After meeting the President, Ambassador Fernández met with the Vice President Danny Faure and several high-level representatives of the government, as well as of the diplomatic society.
Finland recognized the independence of Seychelles on 29 June 1976 and the countries established their diplomatic relations on 1 April 1987.
